Coming from a range of gardens across Scotland, Grow It is peppered with seasonal gardening advice and weekly masterclasses from a range of experts, together with antidotes to a variety of growing pains and advice for the city gardener along with the occasional foray into wild flowers, herbs and foods, for those with green and non-green fingers alike. And, to help you make the most of the wonderful home-grown produce that the Scottish growing season offers up, we'll also be dropping in on the kitchen garden with advice for grow-your-own enthusiasts and our team of chefs who have a selection of brilliant recipes as well as advice on what varieties will deliver you the best flavour in the kitchen.

Nicola Singleton explores the woodland garden at Glendoick with Ken Cox. Graeme Pallister enjoys the first asparagus of the season and Carole Baxter creates a windowsill garden.

Nicola Singleton visits the 100 year old woodland garden at Glendoick in Tayside. It’s a collection of rare and beautiful rhododendrons gathered from the foothills of the Himalaya in Tibet, Nepal and China by 3 generations of the Cox family. 

Plant hunter, world rhododendron expert and 3rd inline of the family, Ken Cox gives Nicola a tour of the garden describing how his father and grandfather initially bought plant samples unknown to science back to Scotland and then created hybrids particularly suited to the our climate. In doing so, they showed off their love of Scottish birds and mountains when creating names for them.

Grow It isn’t just about gardening, it’s about seasonal sensations in your kitchen too. So Chef Graeme Pallister is making a simple delight out of the very first of the Scottish asparagus he can get his hands on.

While Rhododendrons and asparagus need a lot of space, not everyone has that luxury, so Carole Baxter gives Helen Needham a masterclass on what she can grow on her window sill.
