BBC World Service - The Fifth Floor, What’s on trend around the world?

Food, sport and global beats: following fashions and passions

Global trends, including freediving in Colombia, Sufi fusion music in Pakistan and South Korea’s new tourists.  Plus BBC roadshow in Ethiopia; and My Home Town Tehran.

New fashions and passions are reported daily on the language services, so we’ve brought together some of our favourites:  freediving in Colombia, Sufi fusion music in Pakistan, dreadlocks in Nigeria, and a new kind of tourism in South Korea.  With Beatriz de la Pava of BBC Mundo, Julie Yoonnyung Lee of BBC Korean, Princess Abumere from BBC Lagos, and Farah Karim from BBC Africa, whose Global Beats programme this week discovers new music in her second home, Pakistan. 

Ethiopian roadshow
Three Horn of Africa language services took to the road in Ethiopia recently to meet their audiences and gauge the mood of the country a year after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office.  With Kaleb Moges of BBC Amharic, Bekele Atoma of BBC Afaan Oromo and Yemane Nagish of BBC Tigrinya.

My Home Town: Tehran
