BBC3 Presents...
This series follows top flight football club West Ham United Women’s team and their 19-year-old managing director Jack Sullivan.
As women’s football explodes into the mainstream in the run-up to this summer’s World Cup, Jack’s dad David Sullivan, one of the richest men in Britain and the joint-chairman of West Ham United, has tasked Jack with transforming the fortunes of the women’s team.
Filming on and off the pitch, with episodes released as the season progresses, the series follows the progress of the squad as they debut in the all-new, fully-professional Women’s Super League, competing at the highest level of the women’s game, against some of the toughest teams in the world.
Jack’s first full-time job since leaving school at 16 sees him bringing together a squad of 18 outspoken, powerful women, overseeing a million pound budget, and trying to raise the profile of a growing sport often dismissed and derided by male fans. With exclusive access to the club, players and backroom staff, as well as to Jack and his larger-than-life family, this revealing and inspiring behind-the-scenes story discovers just what it takes to be a professional female footballer in today’s game, and whether a loveable but inexperienced teenager can change the face of women’s football.
Approaching the halfway point of the season and with his team sitting uncomfortably close to the bottom of the table, Jack and West Ham United’s Women gear up for a make-or-break run of games throughout December. An already extravagant time of year has the potential to become even more expensive for Jack as the looming January transfer window may require him to reach for his chequebook and splash out on new players, a move that could have serious consequences for one squad member in particular.
