When should we teach children about consent?

As draft advice suggests not telling 6- and 7-year-olds to sit on people's knees and give goodbye kisses, Kaye Adams asks when we should teach children about consent.

Advice aimed at teaching Scottish 6 and 7 year olds about consent advises parents not to insist that their children sit on a relative’s knee or kiss them goodbye; and that the children should be left to make up their minds for themselves.

The draft advice has been published by TASC Scotland, who is putting together support materials for families and schools with support from NHS boards, Local authorities, Education Scotland and the Scottish Government.
