It's 1870. Finally permitted to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh, Sophia starts classes with six other women. But they face financial pressures and abuse, when male students riot over a mixed class.

Sophia Jex-Blake's campaign to become a doctor continues in this true story of a late 19th century pioneer in Maggie Allen's ten-part dramatisation.
