After gaining experience in New York, Sophia is determined to study medicine at Edinburgh and takes on the university's old guard. Stars Julia Watson.

It's 1869. After gaining three years' medical experience studying in New York, Sophia returns to Britain and catches up with a campaigning journalist. 

Sophia focuses her efforts on matriculating at Edinburgh University and starts canvassing for support.

Sophia Jex-Blake's campaign to become a doctor continues in this true story of a late 19th century pioneer in Maggie Allen's ten-part dramatisation.

Julia Watson stars as Sophia Jex-Blake; David Bannerman as Alexander Russel; Ian Brooker as Professor Masson; Sharon Baylis as Mrs Masson; and Bob Doherty as Professor Christison.
