Tonga rugby star Sione Vaiomoʻunga has had the kidney transplant that seemed impossible.

In January, the Tongan rugby union player Sione Vaiomoʻunga told Sportshour how, after moving to Romania to play rugby there, he became stranded in the country, after suffering kidney failure. With no dialysis machines in his native Tonga, Sione believed returning home would be a death sentence, so Sione and his family were hoping to remain in Romania. But their visas were due to run out. Dan Leo, founder of the Pacific Rugby Players Welfare organisation, brings us a happy update.

Bartali was one of the most successful cyclists of the 1930s and 1940s, but it is now also known that he helped saved the lives of hundreds of Jews when the Nazis occupied Italy during World War Two. Alice Gioia talks to Gino's granddaughter, Gioia, and the film-maker Oren Jacoby, who has researched the rider’s wartime heroism.
