In part one, Louie Bellson remembers his days with Duke Ellington. In part two, Van Alexander recalls young Ella Fitzgerald. Graham’s musical theme this week is… “Books!”

Also, we’ll be meeting two more witnesses to musical history from Graham’s archive of interviews. In part one, Drummer, Composer, Arranger and Bandleader Louie Bellson remembers his days with Duke Ellington and his orchestra. The Duke was born 119 years ago on Sunday. And in part two, Bandleader, Composer and Arranger Van Alexander recalls young Ella Fitzgerald when they both worked with Chick Webb’s Band in 1938. Ella was born on April the 25th, 1917. Graham’s musical theme this week is a celebration in words and music of… “Books!”
