He decides to solve the problem by setting off on a journey...

Joe Sims reads Alex Preston's short story.  

Alex is an author and journalist and teaches creative writing at the University of Kent. His novel, In Love and War, was on BBC Radio 4. His personal anthology of nature writing, As Kingfishers Catch Fire, was published in 2017. Alex lives in Kent with his wife and two children.
