Why a statue of George Orwell has been erected at the BBC HQ

Historian Jean Seaton on George Orwell’s time as a BBC World Service employee, and a listener remembers the 60s show, Good Morning Africa.

A statue of renowned author George Orwell has been erected outside of the BBC Headquarters in London. Orwell is being commemorated as he was employed by the BBC Overseas department during World War Two, but the move has raised a few eyebrows from listeners. Rajan Datar visits the statue with BBC historian and director of the Orwell Prize, Jean Seaton, to get some insight.

Also, this week we take another step back in time with listener, Bill Manson, to reminisce over a particular BBC World Service programme from the 60s – Good Morning Africa – while Kevin Silverton, the editor of Newsday talks about the team’s continuing commitment to their African audience.
