The ruling party ZANU-PF had warned that Mr Mugabe must stand down or face impeachment. In a televised address on Sunday night he stunned the nation by making no mention of resignation. Also: Chancellor Angela Merkel to meet Germany's president for crisis talks, Kenya's Supreme Court rules that the result of October's presidential election re-run was valid, and new research says women advised to sleep on side to help prevent stillbirth.
