The 2017 Man Booker shortlist has been announced.
To find out who is on the list, Martha Kearney talks to Baroness Lola Young, a cross bench peer who is chair of the judges. They discuss the final selection, in strict alphabetical order, with readings from the beginning of each novel.
The first reading is the start of the book 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster, the writer who gained renown for The New York Trilogy in the 1980s.
