Thousands were killed, and tens of thousands fled. Three years ago Marshal Khalifa Haftar took command of the self-proclaimed Libyan National Army and waged war on the extremists. Recently, Marshal Haftar declared Benghazi to be liberated and his forces now control most of eastern Libya.
