Gillian Russell finds out how to foster a good relationship with a teenager, with advice from Professor Helen Minnis and former hostage negotiator Richard Mullender.

In today's Teen Special, Gillian Russell asks what is the key to fostering a good relationship with your teenager so that it doesn't affect your own health and happiness?! The world is a different place to when we were young so how do we go about remembering what it's like to be a teenager while also understanding that their interests, needs and boundaries may be quite different to what ours were? 

Prof Helen Minnis, Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Glasgow, advises on what can we do to understand teenage behaviour, how to communicate effectively and the best ways to manage stuff like homework, socialising and chores? 

Former hostage negotiator Richard Mullender draws on his years of experience to suggest techniques we can adopt to help negotiate tricky teenage situations. 

Sophie Dix from mental health charity MQ talks about their #weswear campaign which hopes to get us all to take young people's mental health issues more seriously ... and Nina Martynchyk shares her own experiences of battling with mental health problems as a teenager.
