Clueless

Duration: 6 minutes

In the early 1990s teenagers all over America and the UK were clothed in a sea of grunge: the ultimate anti-fashion clothing. Tartan shirts, ripped baggy jeans - boys and girls were dressing alike. But all that was set to change when in 1995 comedy director, Amy Heckerling, wrote and directed Clueless. Along with her costume designer, Mona May, she invented a new girlie style that the fashion world was desperately in need of. William Banks-Blaney reveals how a cleverly remixed Catholic schoolgirl look became a fashion craze which still resonates today.
