Alan Solomons' Edinburgh side travel to the Welsh capital to face the side who finally extinguished their top six hopes in the final game of last season. Both teams went into that encounter holding feint hopes of reaching the last Champions Cup spot but neither side prevailed, despite Cardiff winning 21-17 on the day.

Elsewhere, Munster's result meant both sides finished the campaign in disappointment. This season sees new hope for both teams, as Edinburgh continue to develop their youngsters and Cardiff having brought several new faces into the squad, including powerhouse Nick Williams from Ulster.
