Jared Leto on his role as the Joker in Suicide Squad and Baz Luhrman talks about his new TV series the Get Down

The Arts Hour this week is presented by Nikki Bedi. Baz Luhrmann, the award winning Australian film director, explains how he collaborated with hiphop stars on his new musical drama series for television, The Get Down, about the birth of Hiphop.  The young Malian singer Inna Modja sings both in English and in Bambara, the lingua franca of Mali, about the conflict in the region and the difficulty of fetching water. Oscar winning Indian composer AR Rahman talks about the impact of fame and writing music for Hollywood as opposed to Bollywood. Kirsty Lang looks at how dance and Shakespeare are engaging young people from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Jared Leto, who plays The Joker in the new movie Suicide Squad, gives his thoughts on the difficulties of approaching a character that has been interpreted many times before. Anoushka Shankar talks about her new album as well as her views on issues such as migration and sexual violence. Selma star David Oyelowo speaks out about diversity in the movie industry and being a black man in a predominantly white part of the US in his new film 5 Nights In Maine. Joseph Tawadros the Australian virtuoso Oud player explains how he was drawn to the Arabic instrument. Spanish singer Buika admits to being a Tina Turner impersonator.
