David Carey and his friend Tucky, two boys from London, are evacuated to the Devon countryside. As they adjust to their new life away from the city, one night the skyline of the moor is lit up with gun flashes and the memory of war threatens to shatter their new-found peace.

David finds out the mysterious person who saved his life is a German airman

The mysterious person who comes to David’s rescue and saves his life is a German airman who’s been hiding out on the moor for over a week. He’s not alone - but his fellow German airman is injured and weak, and they ask the boys to bring them food and blankets. David is reluctant to help an enemy, but Tucky convinces him that he owes the Germans a favour as one of them has saved his life. Will the boys help the Germans or will they give them away?
