David, Tucky and their school friends are to be evacuated from their London homes to Devon, to escape the German bombing of the city. They all take the underground train from Islington to Paddington Station with their suitcases and gas masks. At Paddington they’re given name placards to hang around their necks and join other evacuees on the station platform. During the three hour delay, they sit on their suitcases, while military marches blare out of the station speakers, and wonder what awaits them in Devon and when they’ll see London again. Show less
