As in the men's triathlon, Britain is strongly represented in this event with three athletes capable of challenging for medals. Helen Jenkins and Non Stanford are both former world champions and should feature, even if problems with injuries have threatened to derail their progress.
Vicky Holland, the third Brit, won the bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
All of them face a daunting challenge to finish ahead of Gwen Jorgensen, the American who has dominated this event for the past two years.
