US Launches Air Strikes on IS in Libya

The US carries out air strikes in Libya on positions of so-called Islamic State

The US carries our air strikes in Libya on positions of so-called Islamic State at the request of the UN-backed government, the Pentagon says.

The civil war in Libya has dropped out of the global headlines in recent months. Sadly it does not mean that stability and security are suddenly the order of the day. The country is still divided politically, and ownership of the economic attributes that made Colonel Gaddafi rich enough to interfere in countries far beyond his borders is contested and hugely diluted. Now the US Defence Department says it has carried out air-strikes against fighters loyal to the self-styled Islamic State, at the request of the country's new Government of National Accord. We hear from Mohamed Eljarh, a non-resident fellow at the Atlantic council who is based in Tobruk, in eastern Libya.

The Indian government has been forced to set food distribution centres for several thousand remittance workers in Saudi Arabia, after they were sacked by the construction giant Saudi Aw-jeeya Ltd. On just one evening last weekend, around 16,000 kilos of food was dished out by Indian consulate workers. Indian officials are also trying to get the workers their passports back, so they can come home, or seek work elsewhere in the Gulf. We hear from Margherita Stancati who covers Saudi Arabia for the the Wall Street Journal.

Tesla has bought SolarCity, a solar panel company. Elon Musk is the largest shareholder in both companies, and the CEO of SolarCity is his cousin. We ask Professor Erik Gordon of the University of Michigan: what's SolarCity got that's worth two-point-six billion dollars to Elon Musk?
