Pennie Latin explores perceptions of Scottish food with Mark Greenaway and Shirley Spear.

Pennie Latin sits in for Clare English and explores how Scottish food is perceived, plus she talks to chef Mark Greenaway, who wants to change perceptions of Scottish cuisine.

When you ask someone what they think of when as Scottish food, what answer do you get? Seasonal, local, hearty, filling, traditional, unhealthy, fatty. Probably a bit of all. In this Kitchen Cafe, Pennie Latin explores our perceptions of Scottish food.

Chef Mark Greenaway wants to change the perception of Scottish food with his first book. Part life story, part recipe book and part celebration of Scottish food producers his aim to challenge the stereotypes of Scottish food being unhealthy, stodgy and based entirely on tradition. 

Shirley Spear OBE has spent the last 30 years trying to change the perception of Scottish food both from within Scotland but also telling the world about it. 

To find out how Scotland's multi-cultural population is reflected in our food, Pennie meets sisters Sharanjit Dhesi and Manjinder Dhesi-Dhami to cook one of our national dishes, curry.
