Lily, Martha and Jas are super-bright but socially awkward 13-year-old girls trying to make sense of life, boys and fitting in. While other girls are going to parties, netball practice and sleepovers, our inseparable trio are busy with chess club, homework and Friday nights in watching documentaries.

'Wear your own clothes' day at school is approaching and Lily is anxious not to look like a dork as they usually do in Jas's homemade and uncool, geeky T-shirts. When cool girl Natasha Jones invites Lily to join her group and dress in yellow on Mufti Day, Lily finds herself caught between wanting to be with Natasha and the cool girls and not offending Jas, who has big plans for this year's outfits. On the day, Lily tries to keep a foot in both camps by quickly changing in and out of the dress Jas has made her, so she can spend time with both Jas and the cool girls.

Meanwhile, Ollie is having a difficult time, as it freaks him out when the girls constantly talk about clothes. In the end he decides he can't cope. It's time to end their friendship and he offers them each a formal notice of 'friendundancy'.
