Stupid Man, Smart Phone

Episode 3: Costa Rica: Jungle

Duration: 48 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two ScotlandLatest broadcast: on BBC One Northern Ireland HD

Russell Kane's welcome to the jungle is less Guns N' Roses and more a sensitive singer-songwriter as he invites YouTube superstar Conor Maynard along for his foolhardiest mission yet. They have just a mobile phone to help them survive, because the pair are convinced that even though they have no survival skills or knowledge of the local language and culture, they can stay alive with just a smartphone.

Tasked by friendly members of the Costa Rican Maleku tribe to reach a destination in the dense and unforgiving jungle - all they need to do is survive... but because all they have is their smartphone, they don't have much chance. It would all be a lot easier if it wasn't for deadly bullet ants, giant abseils and fast river crossings. Oh, and the fact that, for this mission, internet reception rarely gets above one bar.

Wandering beneath the impenetrable jungle canopy they must locate internet hotspots and send out desperate tweets whenever they can. Battling humidity and monsoon, the lads will have to convert their phones into multi-tools - using their backlights to attract grasshoppers for dinner and rely on the inbuilt compass to safely navigate back to the hotel. If they can conquer the worst that Costa Rica can throw at them, they might just get accepted by the Maleku. Show less
