It's a blue water classic which, for the past 70 years, has lured offshore sailors from around the world with a challenge unlike any other. The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race offers spectacle, rivalry and drama. It demands determination, endurance and extraordinary seamanship skills from those brave enough to accept the 628 mile trial. From the dramatic start in front of 300,000 spectators in Sydney's iconic Harbour the race is to Hobart, Tasmania via the unforgiving Bass Strait. Wild Oats XI has been the fastest boat on the water for eight of the last ten years.
