2011 was the year that Smoove and Turrell started to get some serious attention and it was all down to one seriously well-crafted second album "Eccentric Audio".
For 2006 expect Amy Winehouse and 'Rehab'. When she released that song there was a real sense of excitement about a woman who'd reached a level she'd only previously hinted at. In 2006 Amy Winehouse was on her way to global domination.
In 1997 Masters At Work released one of the most anticipated albums of the decade. 
In the 80's Afrika bambaataa with their electro rap were where a major influence in setting the groundwork for techno and trance.
In 1971 with the Vietnam War at its height and race riots across the states, soul music was being criticised for closing its eyes to what going on. That was until Marvin Gaye had something to say about it.
In the 1960's Aretha Franklin released one of the greatest southern soul songs of all time, 'Respect'.
