Leeds Rhinos completed an incredible clean sweep of the major prizes, becoming only the third team in the modern era to do the treble. Wakefield secured their Super League status with a dramatic victory in the Million Pound game, while there were emotional farewells for a number of the sport's giants, including St Helens's Paul Wellens and Salford's Adrian Morley.
 
And the year ended on a high as England defeated the world's number one nation New Zealand to record their first series win since 2007.
