To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Frank Sinatra, Friday Night is Music Night looks at the 'The Sinatra Legacy'. Sinatra changed so many things ... Afterwards, if you tried to sing like him you were copying and if you didn't you were doing it wrong. Once he burst onto the scene it meant that singers would no longer be content to provide the 'vocal refrain' to a bandleader - now they expected to be the star. His style and stage presence would create the template for every pop-star who came after; the tabloid press would come of age following his turbulent relationship with Ava Gardner; one of the most brilliant arrangers of all time Nelson Riddle would find world fame; Capitol Records tower would become an iconic land mark on the Los Angeles sky line; and even George Clooney would be able to put Ocean's Eleven together! Guy Barker MBE leads the BBC Concert Orchestra, his big band and singers Kurt Elling, Clare Teal and Anthony Strong in a celebration of the songs, the style, and the sensation that was Frank Sinatra ...
