An initiative for schools, led by BBC Learning and the BBC Performing Groups that aims to open up the world of classical music to children and inspire them to develop their own creative responses.

Ten Pieces is an exciting initiative for primary and secondary age students led by BBC Learning and the BBC Performing Groups. Its aim is to open up the world of classical music to a new generation of children and inspire them to develop their own creative responses to ten pieces of music using a variety of art forms - digital art or animation, performance poetry, dance or movement and composition.

Ten Pieces Extra is a deeper exploration of some of the music featured in Ten Pieces. Celebrities offer further insight into the composers and works featured in Ten Pieces. We learn more about the history and background of the composer and the piece of music itself - interesting facts and stories about the work, the inspirations behind it and some detail on the historical context in which it was composed.

From Gustav Holst's bombastic Mars to Stravinsky's magical Firebird Suite, the programme touches on and delves into the detail of the huge range of wonderful pieces within the genre available to young people and encourages viewers to explore and develop their own taste in classical music while letting their own imaginations run wild when listening.
