Cooks Sue Lawrence and Christopher Trotter discuss how the art of writing about food has evolved from early recipe books to contemporary prose and tweets.

From the nuts and bolts of a recipe to romantic descriptions of beautiful ingredients, food writing is both instructional and personal. Some say it should entice, others insist it is there to help educate and inspire. 

Clare English is joined by two members of The Guild of Food Writers: former President Sue Lawrence and current committee member Christopher Trotter, who describes himself as a cook who writes.

Sue Lawrence originally trained as a journalist and moved into food writing after she won Masterchef. Best known for her traditional Scottish recipes, Sue has just published her first novel. So how hard is it to make that transition from food writing to fiction with lots of food references?

Performance Poet Michael Pederson describes how food is the perfect metaphor for poetry.
