Every treacherous winter on California's US Interstate 80, near Donner Pass and the small town of Truckee, three teams of hardcore tow truck drivers risk their lives rescuing stranded and wrecked motorists littered across one of the most dangerous roads in America. It is all about high risk and high reward, with each driver responding to as many as 15 calls a day, sending them out in blinding blizzards and ice storms in the dead of night. 

As the snow comes in hard, tangling and mangling traffic in Donner Pass, Sam from Nyack Towing must winch up a young driver's pickup, which has plunged down a steep incline and slammed into a tree. Becky and Edgar from Dependable Tow struggle to extract a big rig loaded with hay from a ditch far below the highway. Will of Running Bear rescues an SUV which has hit black ice on I-80 and flipped. Nearly out of gas, Will works fast to upright the SUV while the California Highway Patrol watches him like a hawk.
