Malaria resistant to artemisinin drug is found in Kenya. How drama therapy and Shakespeare is helping people with psychiatric conditions in Rio, and the global impact of rabies.

Artemisinin is the most effective malaria drug we have. The parasite has developed resistance to it in Asia, and researchers have just found resistance in Africa. Dr Colin Sutherland of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine explains the research. 

Shakespeare and Mental Health
Ben Tavener reports from Rio de Janeiro on the Madness Hotel, a collective of patients with mental health problems and their psychiatrist/director who are performing Shakespeare plays. Graham Easton talks to psychologist and drama therapist, Dr Kim Dent-Brown of Hull University about the evidence that drama therapy can help people with psychiatric conditions. 

Global Impact of Rabies 
An international team has just published a review that looks at the global burden of rabies caught from dogs. It says that 160 people die each day from the disease, mostly in poor rural areas. Lead author Dr Katie Hampson of Glasgow University tells Graham Easton how rabies could be eliminated, by vaccinating dogs, and how those who’ve been bitten can be cured if they get treated rapidly.
