President Eisenhower broke relations with Cuba and closed the American Embassy in 1961

In January 1961, President Eisenhower first broke off diplomatic relations with Cuba and closed the American Embassy.

It was in January 1961 that the USA first broke off diplomatic relations with Cuba. Wayne Smith was one of the last diplomats to leave the US embassy in Havana.
