Bertie Beep the ventriloquist and his sheep Walter come to stay at the Mill on the Marsh. He's due to perform at Miss Smiley's cafe later in the day and is very excited, so much so that he can't stop talking. Bertie and Walter take a liking to Great Aunt Loretta and are soon chasing her all over the meadow. It's all great fun until Walter's little hat falls off and goes down the rabbit hole. 

Grandpa knows there's only one way to get it back - by being small. He throws the hat out of the hole and Loretta grabs it. Bertie is so thrilled he sings a love song to her, but it makes him lose his voice! How will he manage to perform? Time for Grandpa and Josh to step in - they go to the cafe, Josh takes Bertie's place and Grandpa provides the voice of Walter the sheep. Bertie is amazed, but he always suspected Walter had a voice of his own!
