BBC World Service Arts correspondent Maryam Erfan interviews the artist Gulsun Karamustafa at the first major retrospective of her work "A Promised Exhibition" in Istanbul .

Gulsun Karamustafa is one of Turkey's most important and influential artists. With work spanning more than forty years and dramatic changes in Turkey's political and social history, Karamustafa investigates topics such as migration, locality, identity, cultural diversity and gender.
