Determined to prove her mettle as the first woman police constable to serve in her hometown, WPC 56 Gina Dawson's resolve is tested on her first day when she encounters thieves, runaways, neglected children and a Brinford branding.

Meanwhile, Brinford Police Station is rocked by a shocking discovery in an abandoned mine, and DI Burns and Sergeant Fenton investigate a serious attack on a young woman - but have they arrested the right man?
