In this American episode of the celebrity genealogy series, actress Christina Applegate sets out to uncover what happened to the grandmother she never knew.

Actress Christina Applegate goes on a quest to uncover what happened to the grandmother she never knew. Christina's father Bob was brought up by his grandparents and knows that his mother Lavina died young. To try find out what happened to Lavina and why her father never knew her, Christina travels to Lavina's home town of Trenton New Jersey. 

Court records reveal a bitter dispute between Christina's grandparents over custody of her father. The records are upsetting, and Christina tries to look beyond the bitter accusations to find the truth of what actually happened. Her investigation leads to a shocking death certificate which reveals the true cause of her grandmother's death, finally closing the book on her father's troubled childhood.
