Series 1

Supporting native species

Duration: 20 minutes

First broadcast: on School RadioLatest broadcast: on School Radio

Available for over a year

The red squirrel and the beaver are both native to Scotland, but both have suffered due to human activity. Grey squirrels were introduced from America in the 19th Century, and have overrun the reds in many areas. The beavers have a different story, they were hunted to extinction 400 years ago, but four families of beavers have recently been brought over to Scotland from Norway. Both species are now the focus of conservation work to protect and help them to live in the Scottish countryside. Show less
