Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer says he's retiring from the technology giant.

Steve Ballmer, the boss of software giant Microsoft, says he'll retire in 12 months, and how second-hand clothes are giving Malawi's cotton farmers a headache.

Steve Ballmer, the boss of Microsoft, announces he'll retire next year. Shares in the software giant promptly rose by nine per cent. We assess the legacy of a man noted for his ebullient style, but also criticised by many for Microsoft's slow response to the booming market for mobile devices.
