South Africa coach says they lack a football identity

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund says they haven’t capitalised on the 1996 Cup of Nations success and they lack a football identity.

The coach of Mali Patrice Carteron tells us how the trouble with Islamic militants in the north of the country has united the team as they take on the hosts in the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The South African coach, Gordon Igesund, says they didn’t capitalise on winning the Cup of Nations in 1996, when they were last hosts, and the national teams from grassroots levels need to find a footballing identity.

The captain who lifted the cup 17 years ago, Neil Tovey, hits out at the football authorities in South Africa accusing them of serious mis-management.

We reflect on the aftermath of the first verdicts following the trial of 21 people accused of being responsible for Egypt’s worst stadium disaster a year ago. All 21 were sentenced to death, causing joy amongst Al Ahly fans in Cairo but deep anger in Port Said.
