Newcastle travel to European champions Chelsea in an intriguing early season showdown, while newly promoted Southampton entertain Wigan at St Mary's Stadium in their first top flight home match since May 2005. 

Champions Manchester City play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in what is sure to be a real test as to how the Reds have adapted to life under the management of Brendan Rodgers. 

In the Championship, Blackburn entertain pre-season favourites Leicester, while Celtic travel to Inverness in the Scottish Premier League, and Rangers travel to Berwick Rangers as they continue to acclimatise to life in bottom tier.
