A poem to capture the spirit of each competing nation in the 2012 Games. Prelude by Jorge Barbosa explores life on Cape Verde prior to the 15th century and is read by Jill Delgado.

Prelude by Jorge Barbosa takes us back to life on Cape Verde before its discovery by the Portuguese in the 15th century. The poem was translated by Ana-Maria Maguire and Robyn Marsack and is read by Jill Delgado whose husband was a Welsh-Cape Verdean. 

Poetry 2012 - The Written World, a BBC collaboration with The Scottish Poetry Library, creating a unique picture of the nations of the world in verse.
