Alarming news forces Leyla and Nicole to bury their differences. Malcolm makes a decision.

Alarming news from the prison forces Leyla and Nicole to bury their differences. An apologetic Agnes arrives in Shieldinch to make peace with Frances. Malcolm makes a big decision.

Frances is unnerved to find Agnes in No 18 but relieved when Agnes apologises for her harshness last time they met. Lenny is taking care of Cal when he gets a call from someone offering information about Amber and he calls Frances to come and look after Cal. When she takes Cal out for a stroll they meet Agnes who takes a funny turn. She asks Frances to escort her back to the care home with her care home driver, Gus. Once in the car, it becomes clear that it was an elaborate deception to abduct Cal and Gus is a henchman. Once they arrive at the old McCabe home, Agnes calls Lenny to demand a ransom. When Lenny arrives, Agnes introduces herself. Lenny explains that he hasn't brought all of the money - most of it is stashed near the spot where he was picked up by Gus. He and Gus go to retrieve the money but Lenny has stashed a gun with the cash and he overpowers Gus before returning to the house. Frances explains to Lenny that Cal is locked in a room that is rigged with an explosive device. She tells him there is a secret way out of the room and in explaining how she knows this is forced to reveal her true identity - she's Vivien McCabe, Tommy's sister. A devastated Lenny rescues Cal and leaves Frances with her mother. When Agnes takes a real turn, Frances leaves her to die and goes to Lenny's to explain that she loves him. Lenny admits that he loves her too - just enough to give her ten seconds to walk away and keep her life. Frances wants to leave town and in exchange for a new identity hands a surprised DI Donald the information he needs to bring down the whole McCabe crime family and associates. But not Lenny.

Michael is coming to terms with a future in jail. Dr Dan convinces him that he has to sell his share in the practice. Nicole is staying at Christina's and is unwilling to face up to the situation at home, preferring instead to hit out at Dan, Leyla and Gabriel.  It is only when the news comes that Michael has attempted suicide that she visits him. When Leyla arrives, she and Nicole convince Michael not to try it again and promise that his family will stay together and be waiting for him when he gets out. Nicole arrives home with Leyla and takes charge, saying that she is back to stay and telling Gabriel he is no longer welcome at the house. Leyla confirms to Gabriel that that is what must happen. The Brodie pact is sealed - a miserable prison for both Nicole and especially Leyla.

Malcolm is dreading his appointment with Dr Dan and tells Liz that he wants to keep any news between them for a bit. When Dr Dan confirms Malcolm's fears that he has dementia, he takes it hard, but after some thought and the loving words of Liz, he decides on a new plan. He takes Liz to the Ship for a drink with Eileen and Gina and explains that he wants to move to Loch Lomond. If his brain is losing the capacity to make and store new memories, he wants to have great new experiences every day and living in a beautiful place with his darling Liz is just the ticket. Everyone gives Malcolm their blessing.
