Gareth's shy singers learn a brand-new style of music - folk.

Ten shy children who love to sing are put through their paces by choirmaster Gareth Malone. On the festival circuit, the group learn about folk music.

The Big Performance tour hits the festival circuit, and there is another new style of music for the group to learn - folk. However, the group's reaction is yet again not what Gareth may have hoped for. Can he get them to overcome their preconceived ideas and throw themselves into this seemingly old-fashioned genre?

The typically British weather does not help the festival vibe to inspire the group, but Gareth has arranged two guests to help them get in the mood. Firstly, they are helped with the storytelling aspect of folk by one of the country's leading children's authors, Liz Kessler. Next up, a drumming lesson from some of the festival's resident percussionists, and the group is really in the mood to bang out a tune. This is just as well, as they will be performing on one of the festival stages in front of around 3,000 people. 

The pressure is on for soloist James. He is very musical, and loves playing his guitar, but the idea of singing in public has always been too difficult for him. Now, Gareth wants him to use his love of guitar to help conquer his fear, so takes him off busking to the public in aid of Children in Need. Can James stop letting every mistake show on his face and turn himself into a relaxed singer? 

Back with the rest of the group, it becomes apparent that all of them are struggling to remember the words under pressure, and with just weeks to go until their final Big Performance at Children in Need, and with his own reputation on the line, Gareth is getting strict. Can the group overcome their forgetfulness under pressure, and deliver a festival-worthy folk performance?
