The Skin I Live In - We review Pedro Almodovar's new film about a brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, who creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

Weekender - We hear about Weekender - a film set in 1990; the rave scene has arrived from Ibiza and warehouse parties are exploding across the UK bringing phenomenal wealth to the organisers. They are taken on a wild journey from the exclusive VIP rooms of London clubs to the outrageous parties in Ibiza super-villas and the hedonism of Amsterdam.

Kes - One of the most important films of Ken Loach's career is being screened at the GFT - David Archibald discusses why it's now regarded as perhaps his finest film, and how the techniques that were employed on it - influenced heavily by cameraman Chris Menges and his experience on If... - became almost a template that would be utilised in much of his later output.

Days of Heaven - A new digital restoration of Terrence Malick's astonishingly beautiful second film, supervised and approved by the director himself is about to be reissiued and shown at Edinburgh's Filmhouse. Wide-eyed, streetwise Abby (Brooke Adams), her lover Bill (Richard Gere) and his younger sister Linda (the extraordinary Linda Manz) come (along with thousands of other croppers from the industrial north) to the fertile harvest landscape of World War I era Texas. Once there, Abby and Bill are caught up in a diffident, ultimately fatal triangle with their ailing young landowner-boss (Sam Shepard).
