The US Army is hoping a quiet winter will give its soldiers a chance to win the support of people in southern Afghanistan; Michael Buchanan travels to the town of Marjah to see what the locals make of the American efforts. In Israel, Hugh Sykes meets a group of Palestinians and Israelis living together as neighbours, and wonders whether their spirit of reconciliation will spread. The South African township of Gugulethu may have become notorious for its lawlessness after the murder of a newlywed tourist, but Karen Allen has been hearing there's a different side to this troubled community. In Chennai, Peter Curran considers the role of English in Indian life as he watches high school students debate the future of the language. And the hunters of Alsace are killing large numbers of wild boar, but Hugh Schofield's been finding out this is a tough and adaptable animal and despite the hunters' efforts the number of these beasts just keeps on growing.
