A half hour interview with interesting and prominent people from around the world with a great range of interests and opinions. Each week, one person is put under the spotlight by either Owen Bennett-Jones or Carrie Gracie, the two presenters on The Interview.  

They explore topical issues, personal motivation and interviewee's hopes and fears. The style is informal and conversational, but at times searching and combative when required.

Investor Joi Ito has big ideas for how the internet connects us all

Investor Joi Ito has backed some big internet successes including Twitter and Flickr. His formula for spotting winners is a mix of networking, Buddhist philosophy and serendipity.

Joi Ito is an investor in early stage internet projects, and he has backed some big successes including Twitter and Flickr. 

He thinks that about one in ten of these start-ups returns a decent amount, but the big ones - the Googles and the Yahoos - come once every five years. 

The trick he says, is to be in position when they arrive and his formula for doing so is a curious mix of networking, Buddhist philosophy and serendipity.
