Justin Rowlatt asks if democracies are incapable of tackling climate change.

Democracy might have to be abandoned to tackle climate change, according to Prof James Lovelock. Are democratic societies incapable of acting for the good of future generations?

Governments might legitimately exercise emergency powers in wartime so, argues Prof James Lovelock, they should have similar powers to deal with the threat of global warming - even if that means abandoning democracy.
