Primary Drama: Key Stage 2 offers simple-to-use drama resources for primary school children aged 7 to 11 which are linked to popular curriculum topics. The drama sessions are intended to be easy for non-specialist teachers to use, providing opportunities to extend classroom work through the exciting possibilities offered by drama activities. Each session has a carefully balanced mix of movement, speaking and listening activities and role play. The Teachers' Notes include clear instructions for how teachers can effectively organise and deliver the drama activities in each session.

The story of Grace Darling's daring rescue of survivors from a shipwreck in the Farne Islands in 1838.

The story of Grace Darling's daring rescue of survivors from a shipwreck in the Farne Islands in 1838. Grace looks out of her lighthouse window early one morning and can see some survivors clinging to Great Harcar Rock following the wreck of the SS Forfarshire. Grace and her father row to the rock and Grace holds the boat steady in stormy seas while her father helps the survivors on board.

The rescue is national news and Grace becomes a celebrity - she even receives a reward from Queen Victoria herself. But Grace's life is to be a short one...

The extraordinary story of Grace Darling and the daring sea rescue she made in 1838.

The two programmes in this unit explore a celebrated sea rescue from the Victorian era. Grace Darling was born in Bamburgh on the north east coast of England. When she was still a child she went with her family to live on a remote island in the Farne Islands, where the family operated the lighthouse. Some time later the family moved to an even more remote location at Longstone lighthouse.

In 1838 the SS Forfarshire was sailing up the east coast to Dundee when she ran into difficulty and was wrecked during a storm. Grace could see the survivors clinging to a rock and she and her father took the brave and selfless decision to attempt a rescue. Their actions became national news and Grace herself a national heroine.
