Jackie opens the programme at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall where the Celtic Connections Festival is taking place - and Heather Haywood and piper, Duncan McGillivray give us a lively version of ‘The Sands of the Shore’.

In Saintfield, the York Island Arts & Heritage Association put on The Liberty Days Festival inspired by the Battle of Saintfield in 1798. As part of the festival, we hear an extract from the musical play ‘Rebellion’ which was staged in the yard at Rowallane House.

The sixth annual Festival of the Peninsula is taking place down the Ards, and one of the participants will be Ian Bruce - we hear his version of the Burns song ‘And now Westlin Winds’.

At the Walled Festival in Carrickfergus, Jackie talks to David Montgomery of the band, ‘The Hounds of Ulster’; and we meet Cameron Robinson from Bangor, one of the historical re-enactors taking part in the festival. DCAL is planning to set up an Ulster-Scots Academy and we hear about the consultation document prepared by the Implementation Group. We finish off with music from Willie Drennan’s group, ‘The Transatlantic Hillbilly Band’ with ‘Doon an Oot True Blues’ from their CD, Auld Time Fusion. Show less
